Over the Mountain Hike – Saturday, October 13, 2018 – CANCELLED

Instead next Saturday, October 20, join our partners at Bloomfield Leisure Services for a shorter, 2-mile Fall Foliage Hike in Penwood State Park, one of the stops originally planned for our Over the Mountain Hike. The hike will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. It’s free, but pre-registration is required at Bloomfield Leisure Services.

Enjoy an invigorating, 5.5-mile hike from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 1:00 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the Wintonbury and Simsbury Land Trusts and Bloomfield Leisure Services. Along with the scenery, the free hike will showcase land trust properties that provide town-to-town trail connectivity linking through Penwood State Park.

We’ll meet at the hike’s end point: the historic 1834 Oliver Filley House in Bloomfield’s LaSalette Park (130 Mountain Avenue). Bloomfield Leisure Services will provide a bus to shuttle hikers to the starting point, the Flower Bridge in Simsbury.

We’ll ascend to Penwood via Simsbury Land Trust’s Owen Mortimer parcel and their gorgeous Tanager Hill property. We’ll take a rest stop in Penwood, visiting Lake Louise and The Pinnacle.

Then we’ll descend into Bloomfield by way of Wintonbury Land Trust’s Stout Family Fields and Hawk Hill Farm home to distinctive Scottish Highland cattle, arriving back at LaSalette Park with (hopefully) some stunning views of Hartford.
