Speer Outdoor Winter Outing, February 11th

Join the Wintonbury Land Trust on February 11th at Speer Property for a winter outdoor outing.  Joe Pacyna, the experienced Speer Preserve Steward, will lead.   Come early and be prepared to be on the trails shortly after 9:30.

A good snowfall and sturdy snow shoes will guarantee a unique experience. Snow shoeing is simple way to experience outdoor winter landscape. No technical skiing skills are necessary and equipment cost is minimal .

Experience a different perception of land. The winter snow emphasizes paths and stream beds. Topography is uniquely understandable without vegetative growth.  The vertical lines of forest trees are apparent. If the snow is fresh, animal tracks will be easy to spot.

The Speer Property is an Upland forest surrounded by open land and MDC Reservoir property. Speer is an outing experience reminiscent of winter in the Vermont woods. Hard to believe Bloomfield Center  is just minutes from Juniper Road.

Please come with good outdoor snow shoes or hiking boots if no snow is present. Wear seasonable outdoor clothing. The trail is an easy to moderate outing, one and a half to two hours in length.

Meet at the cul-de-sac at the top of Juniper Road in Bloomfield on Saturday, February 11th at 9:30. Rain date is Sunday the 12th at 9:30. Check website and facebook for postings or cancellation. See https://www.facebook.com/pg/wintonburylandtrust.
