POSTPONED: Snowshoe/Winter Hike – February 20, 2016

P1060109Due to early mud, ice and high water on trails, The Speer Preserve Winter Hike will be rescheduled. If conditions continue warm, we will look to late April around Earth Day.

It is time for the Wintonbury Land Trust winter snow-shoe/hike at the Speer Property.

Please come early and be prepared to hike out shortly after 9:30. Past hikers have described the outing as a inexpensive trip to the Vermont woods. We will snowshoe if snow is available. If not come prepared with good hiking shoes. Wear seasonable clothing for this easy to moderate hike/snow-shoe outing, one and a half to two hours in length.

Meet at the cul-de-sac at the top of Juniper Road in Bloomfield on Saturday, February 20th at 9:30. Rain out date Sunday the 21st at 9:30, adderall check and facebook for notification or cancellation.

January Work on Hawk Hill Barn – January 21, 2016

DSCN2300Stabilization of the Hawk Hill barn is commencing! Ben Moore’s Home Improvement Co. has successfully squared up five bays of aged posts and beams, and is in the process of adding gusset plates to keep them firmly in place. Ben used a combination of “come-alongs” and power winches to pull on the barn frames over the last month to achieve a nearly plumb structure.

Additionally, work has begun closing in wall openings to make the barn secure and weather resistant. The cattle now have access to the lower level through the south doorway, providing them with needed winter shelter from intense winter storms.

There is still much left to do, so we will keep you posted on the progress. Next on the list of work tasks will be replacing the massive main sliding doors and residing the main west wall.
