Auerfarm Family Hike – June 5, 2016

Sunday, June 5, 10:00 am to 11:30 am: Come and explore Connecticut’s newest state park at the Auerfarm State Park on a family hike through the apple orchards of Auerfarm.

Meet at the historic Apple Barn off Auer Farm Road; park along the road. Auer Farm Road is off of Simsbury Road (Route 185).

We will hike the Orchard Trail from the historic Apple Barn along Cider Hill Road to the High Orchard, where we’ll have great views of Hartford to the east and the Seven Sisters to the north. Hikers will descend from the orchard through farm fields to the Auer Farm Road Orchard and back to the Apple Barn. There will be an optional side trip to the unique Mushroom House on the north side of Auer Farm Road. Total Distance: Approximately 1.0 mile

The hike is part of the Celebrate Bloomfield events and Connecticut Forest and Park Trails Day. Visit the 4-H Education Center at Auerfarm after the hike for an additional Celebrate Bloomfield activities.

Highland Farm Hike – June 4, 2016

The Highland Farm Hike on Saturday, June 4, 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm will meet at the Oliver Filley House in LaSalette Park, 130 Mountain Ave. (across from Duncaster Retirement Community). The  hike will move through the agricultural fields at LaSalette Park and Hawk Hill and cross onto a recently preserved Land Trust property to view the resident (Scottish) Highland cattle and speak with the farmers.

The Oliver Filley House located in Bloomfield’s LaSalette Park is a historic stone structure overlooking Mountain Road. Park at the house. From there hikers will proceed to the Wintonbury Land Trust’s Hawk Hill property to see the grass fed Highland cattle helping the Land Trust to restore agricultural fields. The historic Kelly Barn on scenic Duncaster Road is being restored to agricultural use.  There are notable trees on the site. TheIMG_0273 s hikers will return to the start, experiencing gorgeous views of Hartford on a clear day. Total Distance: Approximately 2.0 miles

Family Hike at the Seabury Wildwoods Trails on June 3 at 6:00.

Meet at the Wildwoods Trail Head/Visitor Parking in the rear of the Seabury Retirement Community.

We will explore several of the Seabury Wildwood trails and finish at sunset with a view of the meadows. The total distance is 2.0 miles. The hike will have an easy pace. This event is jointly sponsored by the Seabury Trails Committee.

Annual Meeting – June 8, 2016

Wintonbury Land Trust’s Annual Meeting will be June 8th, 7:00 – 8:30 PM, at picturesque Auerfarm in Bloomfield. Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education will present a one-hour program on four of their birds. After the program there will be a short business meeting, followed by refreshments. The general public is welcome to what promises to be a captivating evening.
